Summer: Where the Wild Things Are

Hi, ,
This month, I have felt a little like one of those insane people on American Ninja Warrior – I am full throttle on the obstacle course of momming and entrepreneuring and athlete-ing. Y’all know I thrive on a busy schedule, but I am also really looking forward to not eating dinner from an airport Hudson News for the whole month of July!

It will never be lost on me – at least not as long as I have school-aged children – that summer is their greatest escape, and – for working parents – it’s more like a three-month sprint without bathroom breaks. Summer is in full swing here, which means I spend more time at the gas station than at home, as I chauffeur the kids to 300 different camps every day. We’ve got tennis / golf camp, drama camp, camp Gary, and Anderson Ranch camp….I just tell myself that they’re learning valuable life skills right now so that they can take care of their mother in her old age. We also have some great hikes planned because we really are those people who like eating melted, mushy PB&J sandwiches together in nature.THE KIDS' LATEST OBSESSION: We cannot stop bingeing the Smash Boom Best podcast together!

I feel like I spent most of my non-kiddo June time either in an airport or in a meeting of some sort. That might sound like purgatory to some, but for me, it’s one version of heaven (the other version is being at home with my kiddos). I kicked off the month at NY Tech Week (you can read my recaps here), and you know I love being together with my fellow hyper-caffeinated, sleep-deprived entrepreneurs! Then it was off to San Francisco where I appeared on the podcast The Pitch (think Shark Tank for startups)! Did we make the cut to pitch live? YEP! Did any investors invest? You’ll have to tune in to find out! We’ve also been pre-selling our premium platform (Powered by Partytrick!), which debuted to the beverage industry at Aspen Food & Wine this month! WHAT I'VE LEARNED IN THIS PROCESS: Here’s a post I wrote recently about how to put together a great pitch!

I’ve decided to spend July entirely in Colorado for a little rest and rejuvenation. But because sitting still is not my strong suit (understatement), I've also decided to train for the NYC Marathon! Nothing says "I'm handling turning 40 gracefully" quite like pounding my joints against the pavement. But, if you know me, you know that I do find running incredibly grounding, so it’s been a very happy return to long runs with my dog during this time of somewhat controlled chaos. Oh, and, btw, I would love your support! Help me hit my fundraising goal for the race before August 15 (my “I’m officially old" birthday) by donating at www.acsz.org/virginia. ONE THING I'VE ADDED TO MY ROUTINE (AGAIN): Another thing I’ve been doing to keep sane is reviving my old meditation practice. I use the Headspace app. It pairs wonderfully with wine and my current attention span.
