New Year, Same Me, Big Plans

Hi! I know we haven’t talked in awhile, but I’m back! After the mad dash of the winter holidays, I did something completely new for me and made January my “Month of No.” I put a big ole pause on pushing forward at the speed of a bullet train and instead focused on creating a foundation to support all the great projects coming down the tracks (more on that below). I didn’t add anything new to my calendar, said “no” to last-minute invitations, unnecessary meetings, appointments, and to-do list tasks that could wait. And it was…magnificent (and very unlike me)!

So it’s the end of February, and something like 80% of people have given up on their New Year’s resolutions by now. The tradition of setting them has been deeply embedded in me for a very long time, but this year, I decided to try something a little different myself. I typically sprint into every January full of heady optimism and detailed plans. Yet rather than give away those final days of December to strategizing and plotting, I chose to just be present in the moment and enjoy the twilight of 2022 with my family and loved ones. While I’ll always be a “planner,” I am trying to strike a new balance between appreciating the moment I’m in and planning for the future. If you’ve fallen off the resolution wagon, just remember the opportunity to invest in yourself doesn’t expire on December 31st or any other day!
