Notes from the (Walking) Desk of Virginia

HAPPY FALL TO YOU! I’ve got some exciting things up my sleeve, and while social media is a great way to share “a little,” I wanted to share just a bit more with you all. You are on this email because you have impacted my life in some way (whether it be personally, professionally, or both), and I want to create a space where we can trade life updates, favorite resources, and helpful hints. (If you hate email or get too much already, I won’t be offended if you unsubscribe. Well, maybe a little, but I get it!) ;) OK, I'll go first!

If I had a nickel for every time I heard, “Where in the world are you these days, Virginia?” – I’d need a piggy bank the size of the US Treasury. You can still find me at home in Denver or Aspen! Yes, they’re both “home,” and I’m back and forth almost weekly. I’m also currently restoring a beautiful historic home in Denver just waiting to be filled with visitors later this winter. Elizabeth recently turned six, and we hosted a spa-and-unicorn-themed birthday bash at home. Like mother like daughter, she is already talking about launching her first business (for the low, low price of $50, she will make your bed). ;) She has been obsessed with gymnastics this year, and even though she broke her arm a couple of weeks ago, she’s using her recovery period to perfect the splits and set a world record for most signatures on a plaster cast. She started at Aspen Country Day School this September and absolutely LOVES her new school and new friends. She’s quite the social butterfly. Zach is crushing it in 2nd grade at ACDS, too! He was so excited to see all his friends at school again that he wasn’t even sad to see summer end. He also spends as much time as possible at the bike park and practicing to be the next Roger Federer. He discovered tennis this summer, and to say he is obsessed would be an understatement! Most days, he’s 7 going on 15, grumbling at me for sneaking pictures of him when he just wants to play Pokémon, LEGOS, or Minecraft in peace.

Lots of exciting news on this front! For the last two years, I’ve been dreaming and scheming about how to evolve my business to have a greater impact. I have loved every minute of building Bluebird Productions, Something Blue, and Aspen Picnic Company, but going forward, I will be almost fully dedicated (professionally speaking)to taking my mission further than what one-off events can offer. I had a lightbulb moment during the pandemic that I want to be more focused on connecting people on a large scale and empowering them to create meaningful moments together. While an over-the-top wedding is great fun to produce and attend, we ALL need more fun and connection in our daily lives, and I have the ability to help that happen.
One week ago today, I celebrated my first launch into this new chapter. Partytrick is a web-based app with everything you need to turn any occasion – big or small – into a celebration. Interested in taking Partytrick for a test drive? Use my code "VIRGINIA" for 4 free months of access. Want to help me spread the word (pretty please)? I’ll send you some easy text you can cut/paste and pass along to your network.

I am a total geek for systems in my work life, but I’ve also gone really deep into tools for inner health this year. While I am a complete book nerd, I haven’t had much time to read lately because…I wrote my own book this summer! I did so much reflection, relived so many moments (good and bad), and I think the result is a juicy, funny, and insightful read. I cannot WAIT to get it out into the world! I also did a wild thing and installed an aerial rig at home so that I can hang from the ceiling in my basement like a Halloween bat with my teacher, Sarah. Movement is how I keep myself sane – and the intense focus and presence it requires not to fall and break my neck in the silks has been an incredibly fun way to give my mind a vacation from work and momming each morning. Five stars! Highly, highly recommend! (Zach also likes to hijack the silks as a “chair” for iPad watching when he can.) “You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.” Lucille Ball
